How can McKinney-Graham Dental Arts use dental implants to transform and revitalize your smile?
“How can dental implants transform and revitalize my smile?” Here’s the gist on dental implants at McKinney-Graham Dental Arts, Hickory NC…
Dental implants are one of the many ways McKinney-Graham Dental Arts can give you a long-lasting, beautiful smile.
Without a doubt, losing teeth has a massive effect on your oral health, appearance of your smile and level of self-confidence. Tooth loss can lead to serious nutritional problems, certain cancers, heart disease and obesity, among other concerns. Replacing missing teeth restores your ability to smile and chew comfortably, and prevents further health hazards that often result when tooth loss is left unaddressed.
At McKinney-Graham Dental Arts, we want to give you a long-lasting, beautiful smile, and dental implants in Hickory, North Carolina are just one of the many ways we accomplish this goal.
So, what exactly are dental implants?
Dental Implants are a state-of-the-art alternative to an uncomfortable prosthesis. The implants themselves are small appliances that we create in-house; designed to serve a similar purpose to the roots of natural teeth. Once the implants are put into place, we’ll be able to replace anything from one tooth to a whole mouth.
Given the numerous benefits and aesthetic qualities dental implants offer, they have become the preferred method of tooth replacement in dentistry today.
In what cases are dental implants ideal?
Those likely to benefit from dental implants include people who have been experiencing problems with conventional dentures or, simply, people who have lost a tooth or multiple teeth. Dental Implants make life easier for those who have been finding it difficult to chew and enjoy meals, and they can slow down the process of tissue and bone loss in the jaw. Dental implants can even provide a more youthful appearance due to the way that they will give your facial structure a lift. Did you know that dental implants can even help you to speak more clearly?
In the past, patients who had lost too much bone in the jaw could not receive implants, but due to advances in technology, bone tissues can now be regenerated with special bone grafting technique, making successful implant placement possible in the vast majority of patients. McKinney-Graham uses 3D technology to find areas in the jaw where the bone is dense and plentiful enough to permit the placement of implants at specific angles, which often makes bone grafting unnecessary.
“How does the process of getting dental implants work at McKinney-Graham Dental Arts? What can I expect with the procedure?”

Good news, right? We think so too.
Here’s the gist on how we do dental implants at McKinney-Graham Dental Arts…
The initial step is to meet with us for a free consultation. At this consultation, we’ll discuss and determine your needs, assess your oral health, review your medical history, and discuss treatment options in order to create a customized smile design plan— just for you.
If you decide that dental implants are right for you and would like to proceed, next is a pre-procedure exam with our team at McKinney-Graham.
We’ll start by taking some photos of your smile—this is where we really start to dial in, and then we use our CEREC® Primescan Technology to scan your teeth. We then take the images from the scans, put them on a computer, and we can sit down and work together to design the smile you’ve always wanted.
Once completed, you are ready to schedule your implant placement surgery. The surgery is conveniently completed right at our state-of-the-art dental office – no need to go to the hospital or surgical center.
Dr. McKinney, Hickory’s premier dental implant dentist, demonstrates…
“…what we do here, is we go in, plan our implant within the software, design a surgical guide from that software, and we take this and export it to our 3D printing software. We’ll be able to print a guide, and have it ready for our patient on surgery day. The implant is planned before the patient even shows up in our office—it’s the best workflow in the industry right now for doing implants.”
”Is this normal 3D Printing Technology? What’s the difference in this?”
Dr. McKinney explains,
“We use a laser printer that uses a resin that we pour into a tub. Say, a patient comes in on Monday, and they are ready for their implant, I can have it ready for them that afternoon, or Tuesday-Wednesday—whenever they’re ready for it. When it’s time for printing, our software shoots it over to the 3D printer. The guide starts off as a liquid resin, and then from that liquid resin, we’ll make the surgical guide.”
