Once the numbness wears off, some soreness, swelling, or tenderness is normal. For many patients, the first few days are the most tender, and the discomfort improves as the area heals. Your experience may be different depending on the treatment you receive.
What Does Dental Implant Recovery Feel Like
Placing one implant may feel different from placing several. Recovery may also take a little more care if we remove a tooth or add bone to strengthen the area.
After treatment, you may notice:
- Tenderness once the numbness wears off
- Swelling or bruising
- A small amount of bleeding

Your implant will continue becoming secure in the bone for several months, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be sore that whole time. The tenderness usually settles much sooner while deeper healing continues beneath your gums.
